Struggling With Move-In Costs? How Housing Deposit Assistance Can Help You Secure Stable Living

Jan 21, 2026

You want to have a more stable housing situation, but you’re finding that the barrier to entry is too costly. Between moving costs, first and last month’s rent, and the security deposit, getting a foot into the door of stable housing can be challenging.

And this challenge is on top of the already higher percentage of income that many Americans are forking over for rent, which went from 35% in 2021 to 42% in 2024.

Because housing is our mission, the team at Harmony Homes for Healing is dedicated to providing stable, safe, and transitional housing to people in need in Northern California. And this includes housing deposit assistance, which can help set you on a path toward a brighter future.

Affording up-front rental costs

As we already described, getting into housing can be tricky if you don’t have money put aside for deposits, first and last month’s rent, as well as moving costs.  When you add these upfront move-in costs to an already high rent burden that’s eating more income in the United States than in the past, it can feel like getting into stable housing is impossible.

We want you to know that there are agencies out there designed to help Americans find housing. And this mission has become more necessary as homelessness is rising at unprecedented rates. In 2023, for example, the homeless rate at any given point was slightly more than 650,000 people, and this number jumped a whopping 18% to just more than 770,000 people in 2024.

Under the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, there are programs at the state, county, and even town level that work with this national agency to ensure that Americans have access to housing.

And our role is to connect you with these programs to help you get yourself and your family into a more secure housing situation.

Making housing possible

If you’re unable to secure housing due to up-front costs and deposits, we want you to get in touch with us. Our team can guide you through the various channels to secure the funds you need to get you and your family under a safe roof.

During this time, we can also see whether we can provide you with some transitional housing and case work management so that you can concentrate on a more secure future.

Our team is here to help anyone in need, but we do give certain people more consideration, such as women who are pregnant, families with infants, and the elderly.

Even if you don’t check any of those boxes, we still work with you to resolve your housing situation by connecting you to programs that offer financial assistance for housing expenses like deposits.

If you’d like to learn more about our housing deposit assistance services, we invite you to contact us to speak with one of our housing specialists. Our services cover most of Northern California, including Solano, Yolo, Sonoma, and Napa Counties.
