Did you know that, on average, about 24 Americans are victims of partner abuse, including physical violence, sexual assault, and stalking — each and every minute? Yes, every 60 seconds in the United States, 24 people are either hurt and/or made to feel unsafe, and most of these victims are women.
Making matters worse, more often than not, children become collateral damage, but they’re also one of the major hurdles to breaking free from violent partners. Many mothers stay in domestic abuse situations because they have no alternatives and nowhere to go.
And that’s where we can help. At Harmony Homes for Healing, we specialize in transitional housing for people who could use a little help in Northern California. As part of our housing services, we offer domestic violence safe homes and mother/baby homes that provide a safe place to land for single mothers who are also survivors of domestic violence.
One of the biggest hurdles for women with kids who are living in unsafe environments due to partner violence is a lack of housing. With housing costs always going up, many women can’t afford housing, let alone all the other expenses that come with raising a family.
This situation isn’t uncommon — about 11 million one-parent family groups in the US are maintained by the mother, 80% of them.
Harmony Homes wants to help women surmount this hurdle by supplying single mothers with transitional housing that has everything they need, including:
In other words, our goal is to provide single mothers and survivors of abuse with a place where they can catch their breath and finally find some much-needed peace.
As our name suggests, the mission at Harmony Homes for Healing extends well beyond simply providing housing. We understand that when women come to us after years of trying to raise a family in a violent home, they’ve been through an incredibly exhausting and scary experience.
This is why we also offer services that help women move forward and put their trauma behind them. For example, we offer:
We also understand how important it is for kids to have access to these services.
So, our homes not only provide a safe space, but a place where you can truly heal and figure out your next steps in peace.
If you’re feeling very alone in the world and stuck in a prison with your family, we want you to know we’re here to help however we can.
